September 30 was a historic day at South Indian Lake.
It was an honour to be in the community with school staff, Chief Ducharme and O-Pipon-Na-Piwin Cree Nation Council, MKO Grand Chief Garrison Settee, and the community of South Indian Lake, including their Residential School Survivors.
The school worked closely with Chief and Council to organize the day which was filled with emotion and inspiration culminating with the unveiling of the official school name -Thunderbird School. This powerful name is representative of the resilience and strength of the school community and a symbol of reconciliation.
The School was gifted a Star Blanket from Chief and Council which has the colours of the Thunderbird. During the gifting, two eagles soared above us. It was beautiful.
