From June 15-17, Land-based Education staff from across the division gathered together in Norway House for three beautiful days of sharing, collaboration and celebration with the intent to explore ways to advance Indigenous Land-based Education in their respective communities.
The team received a tour of Norway House that highlighted its many gifts, Visiting land-based team members also had opportunities to learn from the Norway House team and the strengths of their local programming. During a trip to local petroglyphs the team was honoured to receive several teachings and listen to the drum songs of local Elder Charlie Muchikekwanape. They also observed the importance of Indigenous languages being present on the land. The team is very excited to bring all that they learned back to their home communities and explore its application to their own Land-based programming. We are especially grateful to Charlie Ettawacappo, Doug Braden, and Patrick Bergstrom for being amazing hosts and guides.
