Since 2013 the Me to We Club at D.R. Hamilton School in Cross Lake has been actively creating positive change both locally and globally as part of the We Day movement. Interested students in grades 6 to 9 can join the club which has an emphasis on social justice and community service.
In 2013 students started a recycling program in their catchment area that has expanded to include other schools in the community and a partnership with Arctic Beverages. Students have taken on fund-raising to build a school in another country as their global challenge, and they make a difference in so many different ways locally. Me to We members have fund-raised for and volunteered at local vet clinics, supported the school's breakfast program when funding was interrupted, and helped members of the community who have encountered challenging times. The list goes on to include many more acts of service.
Students travel to We Day in Winnipeg each year as a celebration of their contributions. This year, the group was approached by the We Day production team for some pictures of their service projects. The D.R. Hamilton Me to We group may very well be spotlighted on the We Day stage!
