On August 30, the RCMP contacted Frontier School Division (FSD), to inform us that they have charged one of our employees Daniel Hughes with sexual assault. When the RCMP informed us of the charges, we immediately suspended this individual and are working with the RCMP.
The charges were made recently and stem from a period BEFORE he worked with Frontier School Division and are not in any way related to his time here or with any previous position. This individual has worked for FSD for three years and was one of 26 dormitory counsellors.
Though we have received no complaints regarding the conduct of this individual, we will be conducting our own inquiries with staff and students. Please be assured that he was subject to all criminal background checks including the Child Abuse Registry, criminal record check, and references before he was hired.
Dorm counsellors are part of a team responsible for the supervision and care of our students both on and off campus while they attend Frontier Collegiate.
I must reiterate that these charges are NOT related to the individual’s time with Frontier School Division and out of an abundance of caution we will work with experts to ensure that the exceptional professionalism and learning environment we provide has not been impacted in any way.
The protection and education of our students are the top priorities of any school division; Frontier is no different. The principles that guide all of our decisions are to deliver outstanding education in a safe and creative learning environment that you have come to expect from our Division.
Please be assured that as soon as we have more information to share with you we will do so immediately. In the meantime, if you have questions we encourage you to reach out to me, our Area Superintendents or members of our board.
