Frontier School Division is thrilled to announce that Leaf Rapids Education Centre in Leaf Rapids, MB was selected as one of 7 schools from across Canada to be recognized for their work in supporting mental health and physical activity for students, staff and community members by Share2Care.
Leaf Rapids Education Center is developing a school-based fitness and wellness centre to meet the needs of the students, staff, and community members. Having access to a proper strength and conditioning training facility is important, and would overcome the geographical barriers to wellbeing.
Student learning is positively affected by physical activity, and especially during this pandemic, there have been growing concerns in the school community regarding mental health.
The primary goal of creating a fitness and wellness centre is to support youth in developing or maintaining a healthy lifestyle, as well as understanding that practicing good health is a lifelong process that continues long after one's public education journey is complete.
As a result of the Share2Care campaign, the school will receive $2,000 to continue advancing this promising practice to further support their initiative.
Share2Care is a mental health activation initiative gathering promising practices from across Canada to share and inspire others to take action in their class and or school community. As a part of the PHE Canada Teach Resiliency program, Share2Care aims to recognize and share unique, innovative and promising school mental health programs and initiatives that are making positive impacts on students, school staff, and the entire school community.
