The recipient for the Outstanding Contribution Award 2021 is Pearl Dumas from the Lakefront School Committee in Crane River, MB.
Pearl has been a member of the Lakefront School Committee for 13 consecutive years with a few short periods in 1991 and 1993. During that time, she has served as Chairperson, Treasurer and Area Advisory rep.
She is very active in school events and activities. She always looks for ways to fundraise for the school committee so that they are able to provide the students with gifts and treat bags at Christmas and gifts at graduation.
Pearl attends the Welcome Back barbecue in September where she helps prepare and hand out the food, and visits with students, staff and community members. She attends the Christmas concert and along with her fellow School Committee members, purchases, wraps, and deliver gifts and treats to the students. In June, Pearl always attends the graduation ceremony and helps with the lunch.
School trips and the breakfast program have benefitted from her service. She has done presentations to the students on bullying and on her grandson’s disappearance, teaching the children compassion and respect. She lives close to the school and always keeps a watchful eye on the students to ensure their safety.
Pearl is very community-minded and has served on the local MMF as chairperson for almost 15 years. In this capacity, she was able to start Winterfest in conjunction with O-Chi-Chak Ko Sipi First Nation and fundraise at this event for the School Committee. She has also worked as store manager for the First Nations store.
She enjoys attending the School Committee and Area Advisory meetings to keep up to date on the education of the students in her community and beyond. She also attends the Annual School Committee Conference yearly to network with others. She never misses a session or a meeting!
Pearl is definitely an Outstanding School Committee member and very deserving of this award! Congratulations Pearl!
