We are thrilled to announce that Frontier School Division's Health and Wellness Coordinator Heather Lowe, is this year's recipient of the Physical and Health Educators (PHE) of Manitoba Middle Years Award. This most prestigious award honours physical educators who have shown outstanding leadership and dedication to the promotion of physical education in the province of Manitoba.
Heather is a tremendously passionate, skilled and hardworking educator. She is a tireless advocate in support of Physical Education and wellness across Frontier School Division and Northern Manitoba. She is always innovative in her approach.
COVID-19 has presented all teachers in our Country with unique challenges. Heather has risen to these challenges time and time again. She continues to come up with unique ideas to ensure student safety, engagement and physical activity, whether it be organizing a divisional Virtual Fishing Derby, Offering Virtual HIIT & YOGA workshops over ZOOM, Hosting Division wide virtual Frontier & High School Games or sending kits North so that schools can build their own outdoor curling rinks. Heather is constantly strategizing on how best to support students, teachers, administrators and community.
She is a strong advocate for the inclusion of Indigenous Education within the Physical Education Portfolio, and is a strong Ally in this work. Ensuring that the physical education curriculum our students are presented with is representative of who they are as young Indigenous People, is a clear priority for Heather. This fall she was an attendee at the Indspire National Gathering on Indigenous Education. Heather is constantly looking for opportunities to engage students in Outdoor Education, and has made it a priority to connect with the Indigenous Way of Life Department in Frontier School Division to ensure we are including cultural knowledge and ways of learning into outdoor experiences for youth.
Heather is passionate, creative and always ready to take on a new challenge. She leads by example, and we are extremely proud to have her as a member of our Frontier Family. Congratulations Heather.
