School Committees

Local School Committees form the foundation of the governance structure of Frontier School Division. Local school committee members are elected by the community, are responsible for advising the principal and Area Superintendent with respect to school matters and encouraging the involvement of residents.

A local school committee member's first and greatest concern is the best interest of each and every child in their local school.

The principal and school committee form the leadership team for their school. The principal is the educational leader responsible for management, staff organization, student instruction and discipline. The school committee provides guidance, direction and support to the school.

Committee members review and make recommendations on:

  • The hiring of principals, teachers and other staff
  • Personnel performance evaluations
  • Proposed annual budget and monthly expenditures
  • Proposed capital construction projects
  • Changes in policies, procedures, program and activities
  • Transportation of students
  • Short- and long-term priorities for each school in their ward

If you’re interested in getting involved with a school committee, please contact the Governance Support Officer in your Area Office.

Established 45 years ago and taking place in Winnipeg, the ASCC is one of Frontier School Divisions largest events.  Over a course of 3-days, school committee delegates gather to generate and exchange ideas, participate in breakout sessions, visit program and partner booths, and engage with Keynote speakers on important topics that will enhance the knowledge and well-being of our students.

It is also a time to recognize and honour the achievements and service of our Frontier Family members. These award presentations include Long-Term Service Awards, Outstanding Contribution Award, and the coveted Frontier Achievement Award.

The ASCC also provides students with the opportunity to shine!

Each year students from across the division are invited to showcase their visual and performing arts, delegates are treated to a variety of student entertainment such as:

  • Frontier Got Talent: A student showcase of dance, vocals, comedians, instruments and more!
  • Frontier Fiddlers: Fiddle students from across the division come together to perform.
  • Annual Juried Art Show: A presentation of students artwork including drawings, paintings, sculptures, crafts, photography and digital animation.
